Swadhinata Trust
About Us
The Swadhinata Trust is a secular Bengali community heritage organisation set up in 2000 by a group of local Tower Hamlets based community workers active in community politics to raise youth awareness about Bengali history, culture and heritage by establishing resources for British Bengali community and the general public in the field of education, research and the creative arts.
The Swadhinata Trust also carries out academic research, specialising in oral history projects and research projects to document the lives of the British Bengali community history, culture and diversity with the objective of enhancing the lives of all the people living and working in Tower Hamlets primarily, but also in other London boroughs and across the UK, and use it towards the promotion of community cohesion in London and the UK.

Ansar Ahmed Ullah is a community activist who has lived and worked in the East End of London since the 1980s. He has worked as a youth, social and community worker and has been an active anti-racist campaigner. He is currently involved with the Swadhinata Trust, set up in 2000 to engage and work with young people to promote Bengali secular heritage and arts.
